GhIPSS raising awareness for the adoption of GhQR at selected Malls in Ghana

The Ghana Interbank Payment and Settlement System (GhIPSS) is holding a series of events and campaigns to create awareness for the adoption of GhQR Pay as an alternative means of payment at selected malls across the country.

The maiden event dubbed “GhQR Junction Mall Experience fair” was held on Friday, 2nd July 2021, and Saturday, 3rd July 2021, at the Junction Mall, Nungua. Shoppers who visited the Junction Mall on Friday and Saturday had the opportunity to win amazing prizes after paying with the GhQR.

CEO of GhIPSS, Archie Hesse, explained the importance of going cashless in this COVID era during the event.

“Indeed, GhQR is a non-contact form of payment very suitable for the covid period and, so we will ensure that the entire event is safe for the public.”

What is the GhQR Pay

GhQR or the Universal QR code is an electronic payment channel that allows individuals and merchants to make transactions in real-time. Customers scan the merchant’s QR code to effect payment or dial the terminal ID beneath the QR Code using USSD to make payment. The GhQR is easy and convenient to use. It doesn’t matter the Bank or MOMO platform the merchant or the customer uses. Payments are made and accepted in real-time. In addition to that, all transactions to GhQR are charges-free as compared to the banks and MOMO.

The Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, launched the GhQR last year when he used it to pay for waakye at Auntie Munie. Since then, GhIPSS has recorded more than 65,000 merchants who have successfully enrolled on this payment platform. Banks, Electronic money issuers, Fintechs are some major merchants providing comfort to their customers.

How do I get GhQR for my Business?

In other to be a merchant of the GhiPSS GhQR, you’d have to visit your Bank, your MOMO office, or payment service provider to create the QR code for your business. They will create a Universal QR code for your business and link it to your business account. You will be provided with bitmaps of the QR code to print, laminate, and paste at the payment desk of your business.

GhIPSS will hold the next event at the Accra Mall on the 9th and 10th of July, 2021. Banks and Fintechs will be available at the fair to engage the public by helping them with the process of paying with GhQR.
