How to send and receive Tips with Twitter Tips Jar

Twitter is announcing today that its Tipping feature called Tips has been rolled out to all iPhone users and is available to everyone from September 23, 2021. Android users will also receive their Twitter tip jar update in the coming weeks. Twitter users will now be able to send and receive payments (tips) through their Twitter App.




According to Twitter, Tips create “an easy way to direct people to links to your payment profiles and we’re making it easier to support the people driving the conversation on Twitter – whether you want to support a content creator, help someone fundraise, tip someone who just needs some help or thank someone for making you laugh.”

In a Blog, the microblogging platform also announced that it has partnered with seven (7) other payment services to make this possible. The payment services are; Bandcamp, Cash App, Chipper, Patreon, Razorpay, Wealthsimple Cash, Venmo, and Strike to receive Bitcoin payments on Twitter.

Twitter Tips Jar eligibility

To be eligible for the Twitter Tips jar, you must meet these requirements; 

  1. Must be 18+ years old to enable Tips.

  2. You must ensure that your tips comply with the terms and policies of the third-party services.

  3. You have to agree to Twitter’s General Tipping policy.

How to enable Twitter Tips iOS

Here is how to enable/ activate your Twitter Tips account. This will enable you to get tips on Twitter.

  • Update your Twitter to the latest version.
  • Sign in to your Twitter account.
  • Tap on your profile icon on the left top corner to open the Twitter Menu.
  • Tap on Tips, which is off by default.
  • Agree to the Tips terms to turn on Tips.

NB: If you still can’t see the tips icon after the update, wait for the next Twitter update in your region.

How to send Tips to others on iOS

To send Tips on Twitter, you must first:

  • Sign in to your Twitter account.
  • Search and Tap on the profile of the Account you want to send Tips.
  • If the person has enabled Tips, you will see the money icon beside the Message icon.
  • Tap on the Tips icon and select from the list of payment services or platforms that the person has enabled, and you select whichever service you prefer.
  • You will be redirected to the payment platform to confirm payment.
