GhanaPay is the new normal in sending and receiving money in Ghana. Speaking at the launch, the vice president of the Republic of Ghana, Dr.Mahmud Bawumia, emphasized the significance of the new mobile money service in leveraging financial freedom & inclusion in the country whiles boosting the government’s digitization agenda.
According to Dr. Bawumia, the new payment platform by the Ghana Association of Banks(GAB) and the Ghana Interbank Payment and Settlement System (GhIPSS) will help clear the “bottlenecks” associated with the formal opening of bank accounts in the country.
“GhanaPay takes care of the bottlenecks associated with opening of formal bank accounts, so the banks should be able to use the GhanaPay platform to massively reduce the traditionally unbanked population,” he stated.
The Ghana Pay mobile money service serves as a universal wallet that connects all banks, rural banks, savings and loans, and mobile money accounts. It operates like the existing mobile money services but with additional banking functionalities.
For example, with mobile money, you can send money to other mobile money accounts but not any bank accounts; except the one linked to it.
But with GhanaPay, you can send money to several bank accounts, momo, or any GhanaPay wallet for free without charges. Only e-levy will apply. You can also make QR payments with GhQR and buy airtime or data.
Ghana Pay is not another banking app but an advanced mobile money service. You can deposit or withdraw money to your Ghana Pay wallet by visiting any GhanaPay agents nationwide or transferring from your bank account to your GhanaPay wallet.
