How to get started with Twitter Spaces 2022

Social media is gradually transitioning from Text and image style to audio due to the recent COVID-19 pandemic. Users would like to “talk more” on social media rather than to “text”. With the invasion of Clubhouse, every social media platform is now finding a way to make audio a possibility.

Twitter this year joined the audio bandwagon by introducing ‘Space’ which is Twitter’s way of saying “talk more” rather than “tweet more”. Space has been a sudden hit by Twitter. The micro-blogging platform is now finding a way for creators to monetize their Spaces. Today, I hope I can give you every detail you need on how to start your own audio chat room experience with Twitter Space.

What is a Twitter Space

Twitter Spaces are live audio chat rooms that enable creators to open audio conversations on any topic. Creators build new audiences by engaging with their Twitter followers through audio. Anyone on Twitter can join a space. Twitter has made Space available on Android, iOS, and desktop. When a user joins a space as a listener, they can listen to whatever is being discussed in the audio chat room.

How to host a Space on Android & iOS

Time needed: 5 minutes

  1. Open your Twitter app & Tap on the compose icon on the right bottom corner. You can also Tap on your profile image at the top of your timeline.

  2. Select Space to set a name and also start your Space. You can also schedule your Space to go live at a specific time.

  3. Tap on the Add icon to add guests to your Space. You can also share your Space link with a tweet.

  4. Once the Space has started, creators can now make guests co-hosts, speakers, or just listeners.

  5. Hosts can end the Space after the conversation by Tapping on ‘End‘.

NOTE: You have to have 600 followers or more to host a Space on Twitter.

How to find and join Twitter Space on Android & iOS

Here is how to join Twitter space or spaces using the Twitter app. To join a Space, select a profile photo with a purple, pulsing outline at the top of your timeline, or select a link from someone’s Tweet, or a link in a Direct Message (DM).

  • To join a Space on Twitter, Open your Twitter app.
  • Make sure you are following a Space host. Tap on the purple icon beside your profile at the top of your timeline.
  • Tap on the “join this space” icon at the bottom of the screen to join the conversation.
  • Guest listeners cannot speak, but rather use ‘Twemojis‘ to interact in the chat room.
  • Once you finish listening to the Space, Tap ‘leave‘ to exit the audio chat room.

How to Discover active Spaces on Twitter

Although Twitter promised Spaces will get its own Tab, that has not still materialized. In the meantime, to discover random and active spaces on Twitter, Type “twitter.com/i/ispaces” in the Twitter search box.
